white caster sugar
salt
freshly boiled hot water
Warm the teapot by swirling hot water and discarding it.
If using gunpowder tea, rinse the pellets with hot water and discard the water. If using a teabag, skip to the next step.
Add cloves (or other spices) and 1-2 teaspoons of sugar to the teapot.
Gently bruise the mint leaves and stems between your palms.
Add the bruised mint to the teapot, and optionally a pinch of salt.
Top with boiling water and let it brew for at least 5 minutes.
