Preheat oven to 400°F.
In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy.

Bake for 6 to 10 minutes, or until the edges of the cookies are lightly browned.
Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the cookies cool for 2 to 3 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
If desired, sprinkle the cookies with cocoa powder for a festive touch, especially when making reindeer-shaped cookies.
Store the cooled cookies in an airtight container at room temperature or freeze them for up to 2 months for longer storage.
