Poha (Flattened rice)

Sugar
Cardamom Powder (Elaichi)

Wash the beaten rice (poha) thoroughly under running water.
Soak the washed poha in adequate water for 10 minutes.
Heat 1 cup of water in a saucepan over high heat.
Add the soaked poha to the saucepan and bring it to a boil.
Add milk to the boiling mixture.
Boil the mixture again for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Add sugar and stir well until dissolved.
Sprinkle in crushed cardamom powder and stir well.
Simmer for a couple of minutes.
Turn off the heat and serve hot.
Garnish with kesar (saffron) or chopped nuts, if desired.
