Spray muffin tin with nonstick spray and set aside.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).
Heat beer in a saucepan over medium heat until just warm, do not let boil.
Remove the saucepan from the stove.
Add sugar to the warm beer and stir until the sugar is dissolved.
Add self-rising flour to the beer and sugar mixture and stir until just blended. Do not overmix.
Spoon the batter into the prepared muffin tins, filling each about half way.
Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until the muffins are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let cool slightly before serving.
