Dissolve bicarbonate of soda in boiling water.
Add the bicarbonate of soda solution to the melted butter mixture; it will froth up.
Quickly add the butter mixture to the dry ingredients and mix well.
Spoon tablespoons of mixture onto greased trays.
Flatten slightly, leaving room to spread.
Bake in the middle of the oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
Cool on wire racks completely before serving.
